Description of the activities in favor of the self-development of the surrounding communities of Peñoles operations.

  • Peñoles’ commitment to the communities in which we operate goes further than the job generation; it is translated into concrete actions oriented to the strengthening of their self-development.
  • The Mines Division benefited 628 people directly and 1,800 people indirectly in the 22 surrounding communities in the states of Zacatecas, Sonora, State of Mexico, and Chihuahua, with courses that create or strengthen their abilities to generate products and self-employment. Among these stand out the training in solar ovens, design in felt, ceramic painting, confectionery and cooking, bossage, beauty, textile painting, openwork workshop, and the confection of women handbags with recycled paper offered to employees and contractor wives.
  • The Metals-Chemicals Division made 120 courses in community centers and 36 in the Pensioner Union with a total of 5,600 participants. The “Par Le” Cooperative Society of Production was promoted by 25 housewives in the surrounding neighborhoods dedicated to the production and commercialization of craftsmanship and hand knitted shoes. For the 4th consecutive year, 23 community promoters received 31 training hours with the purpose of developing abilities for program design that would increase the quality of life of the community. The 1st silversmith’s workshop was carried out in coordination with the Municipal Office of Economical Development and Tourism, the Municipal Office of Culture of Torreon and Boato company, with 340 participants in the first phase, 71 in the second, and 26 experienced artisans in the third one. Training was also given regarding safety and quality topics to 60 supplier companies, with a total of 800 participants and 20,000 man hours of instruction.
  • The Engineering and Construction Division supported the courses given on handcrafts with recyclable products to 24 people.
